Wal-Mart Gives Back: $5 Million Donated to Support Black History

When I think Wal-Mart, key things come to mind. Like: they are “America’s largest employer”, “world’s largest retailer”, and “the world’s 18th largest corporation”. Or I may think about the many times said corporation has come under-fire for shady policies and business practices. Etc…My point is, that not to many good things really come to mind. You know, other than the fact that I can buy things cheaper there than most other retail chains.

But recently, Wal-Mart showed that they had a another side…and that side believes in supporting good causes. On Tuesday, they made one of the largest and most generous donations to Smithsonian in DC. $5 Million dollars were given to help build the Smithsonian Institute’s newest museum; the National Museum of African American History and Culture.

This museum, when finished, will be right on the National Mall. It will have it’s own spot next to some popular neighbors; like the Hirshorn, Air & Space Museum, even the Natural History Museum (which was used in the DC version of the film ‘Night At The Museum’). Apparently the project has already gotten into full swing and it is expected to open in the fall of 2015.
